Torn Silhouettes

Here are a couple of cards with the same layout, but different looks. I used torn paper to mask either side of the sponged areas, then stamped the image on top.

Stamps - Blooming with Kindness, Serene Silhouettes
Card Stock - Soft Sky, Whisper White
Ink - Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, Smoky Slate, Soft Sky

Stamps - Serene Silhouettes, Upsy Daisy (ret.)
Card Stock - Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White
Ink - Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding, StazOn Black, Wisteria Wonder

Here's another condolence card. However, I've used this style for several different occasions. It's just a matter of changing the sentiment. The process for applying the ink is a combination of: direct-to-paper (running the ink pad directly across the card stock), daubing, and sponging.
Stamps - Serene Silhouettes, Thoughts & Prayers
Card Stock - Perfect Plumb, Whisper White
Ink - Black Stazon, Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Sky
Ribbon - Pear Pizzazz Taffeta

Stack of Silhouettes

I decided a while back that I would send a box of 100 cards to Operation Write Home by the end of the year. The year is almost done, but I'm not. My next few posts will probably consist of several similar cards.

For a Quick Recovery

A friend just had hip replacement surgery, so I wanted to make her a card. I have made these scenic-style cards before, but not using some of these colors. I found a card, Twilight Beach by Cindy Gilfillan at Splitcoaststampers, which I used as inspiration.
Stamps - Serene Silhouettes, Trust God
Paper - Basic Black, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White
Ink - Always Artichoke, Basic Black, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Soft Sky
Punch - Curly Label
Embossing Powder - Clear

Serene Medley

I've been working with a lot of winter scenes and needed to make a switch. Don't worry, I will be making more winter scenes. For now, though, I thought I would try something a little different. I really like the way it turned out.
Stamps - Serene Silhouettes, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Card Stock - Basic Black, Very Vanilla
DSP - Modern Medley
Ink - Basic Black
Punches - Modern Label, Word Window
Jewels - Pearls
Embossing Powder - Clear

I have discovered that, because the Basic Black ink tends to take a bit longer to dry, if I add clear embossing powder I no longer smudge the ink. Since I started doing this, I have cut my smudging down to nothing!

Really Serene Silhouette

This is a technique that took a little bit of practice before I liked the results. It's called direct to paper, and instructions for the technique can be found at Freedom in Creating. Michelle does a wonderful job of giving step-by-step, easy-to-follow, instructions.
Stamp - Serene Silhouettes
Paper - Basic Black, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White
Ink - Basic Black, Baja Breeze, Marina Mist, Old Olive, Pool Party, So Saffron
Embellishments - Argyle Embossing Folder, Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon

Crisp Silhouettes

Yep, still doing the silhouette thing. I saw this layout done by another SU! demonstrator, in different colors, and really liked the look. It's the one stamp in the set that I haven't used too much. So, of course, I had to create it in my own way.

  • Stamps - Serene Silhouettes
  • Cardstock - Whisper White
  • DSP - Crisp Cantaloupe
  • Ink - Crisp Cantaloupe
  • Punches - 1-3/4" Circle, 2-3/8" Scallop
  • Embossing Folder - Fancy Fan
  • Jewels - Pearls colored with Crisp Cantaloupe Stampin' Write Marker

Raspberry Silhouettes

At the moment, I'm enjoying playing with silhouettes. Of course, tomorrow that could all change. I just read that to really make an image "pop," frame it in black. I decided to utilize that idea for this card.

What do you think? Is what I read correct?

  • Stamps - Serene Silhouettes
  • Cardstock - Basic Black, Whisper White
  • DSP - Raspberry Ripple
  • Ink - Raspberry Ripple
  • Ribbon - Raspberry Ripple Satin Stitched

Lakeside Serenity

I love making landscape scenes. Playing with different layouts and designs. I started this one with a scrap of Whisper White that was long and narrow (2-1/4" x 6"). I cut it down to size and played from there.
Supplies: Stamp - Serene Silhouettes; Paper- Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, River Rock, Whisper White; Ink - Always Artichoke, Lucky Limeade, Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Sky; Punch - Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border

Three More Silhouettes

Here are three more cards using Serene Silhouettes. The "stitching" on the Elegant Eggplant card was created using paper piercing and a black Stampin' Write marker.

Three Silhouettes

These are three cards I made using Serene Silhouettes. I really like using them with a very clean layout, and the rich, regal colors of Bravo Burgundy (ret.), Elegant Eggplant and Not Quite Navy (ret.).

Serene Shadows

As I posted yesterday, I've decided to follow the color challenge going on over at The Paper Players. I'm utilizing their color selection to make my cards this week. Although I'm using the same colors for each card, that is the only common thread.

This is my second card:

Supplies: Stamps - Serene Silhouettes; Ink - Bravo Burgundy, More Mustard, Old Olive; Paper - Bravo Burgundy, More Mustard, Old Olive, Very Vanilla; Punch - Ribbon Border; Jewels - Pearls

Friday, November 9, 2012

I admit it, I have fallen in love with this layout. I am in the process of making a batch of cards and this layout allows me to play with stamps and colors and still allows the cards to work together. Here are just a couple that I've made so far.

Supplies: Stamp - Serene Silhouettes; Paper - Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry (bottom), Whisper White, and International Bazaar DSP; Ink - Pacific Point; Ribbon -  Pacific Point Grosgrain Stitched and Lucky Limeade Ruffle (top); Embossing Folder - Fancy Fan

Kris McIntosh give a great tutorial on how to create these, and can be found at Stamping with Kris.

Distressed in Stitches

I just recently started following Black Tie Friday's blog. This week I have decided to try my hand at Challenge #7. The challenge is to make a distressed card with stitching on it. My problem - I have never "stitched" a card. My solution - "faux stitching". I used the paper piercing tool to pierce the holes then "stitch" lines using Stampin' Write markers.

Supplies: Stamp - Serene Silhouettes; Paper - Basic Black, Not Quite Navy and Whisper White; Ink - Basic Black and Not Quite Navy (stitching) ; Accessories - Whisper White Organza Ribbon, Vintage Faceted Designer Button, and Pearl Jewel (colored with black Sharpie and heat-set).

Sharing in Sorrow

Okay, so no one likes to make these cards. If you're like me, you only make them when you need one. This card is 8-1/2" x 11" (folded in half), so lots of co-workers will have an opportunity to sign it.

Supplies: Stamps - Serene Silhouettes, and Thoughts & Prayers; Paper - Always Artichoke (7-7/8" x 4-7/8"), Crumb Cake (8-1/4" x 5-1/4", and 5" x 3-3/4"), and Very Vanilla (8-1/2" x 11" (folded in half), and 4-1/4" x 3"), plus enough Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla for the sentiment; Ink: Always Artichoke; Framelits - Apothecary Accents; Jewels - Pearls.
